Paper VS Electronic: The Ultimate Battle!

Recently, I’ve been thinking quite a lot about getting a planner. Not just getting a reminder or appointment app on my phone, but a real paper planner. I’ve been online window shopping and have found so many beautiful leather planners, but I can’t tell if it’s the shop-a-holic in me or if there’s actually a good reason to buy one. Part of me thinks that using a paper planner is a not only wasteful, but also impractical. I mean, c’mon, I can barely keep up with the calendar that sits in my phone… how would I keep up with one that added to the list of things to carry around?

This internal debate has made me think more about the e-book versus real live paper book dilemma that seems to be going on as of late. I’m a self proclaimed book lover and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to buy into the whole e-book thing. I’ve bought text books for my iPad before when they were significantly cheaper that way, but I can’t imagine myself willingly buying one for any other reason. How can one give up the smell and feel of the pages turning for the ease of a light-adjusting touch screen? I enjoy knowing that there are stories other than the written ones in that book that were transferred from the fingers that turned the pages before me.

Back to the point, basically… I’m wondering what you readers think about planners. Do you use one? Does it help you stay organized, and which brand/prototype is your favorite? If you don’t use one… why not? And hey, if you have something to say about paper vs ebooks, speak up! Comment below!

Almost forgot today’s post. Carved (second draft)

Fall in love with a ghoul, its deep sounds;
bones that dance downstairs alone,
or with you.
Fall in love with the devil
the dark honesty in his ruthless ways,
the way he cackles and smirks as he tells you
precisely the truth that you did not want to hear.
Fall in love with God,
his all-knowing statements of what has been,
of what will be.
Fall in love with anything.
Anything but a
witch.
Witches aren’t lovers.
To love a witch is to see the beauty in Medusa
before she turns you to stone,
a quick, terrifying moment of bliss,
followed by a lifetime of paralyzing regret.
To climb a fence fearlessly
realizing that many others have impaled themselves
right there on that fence
seconds before plunging to your ill fate.
Those others have fallen slowly with open eyes
wishing they had looked a little closer,
wishing they had planned their next moves more precisely.
Fall in love with anyone but a witch
and you become a pumpkin.
Hand picked and admired.
Taken home with great care;
your beholder understands the fragility of you.
Fall in love with a witch,
and after a few short-lived moments of thoughtful gazing,
she will carve you.

Seven Deadly Sins (first draft)

All seven sins are consequences of love.

Pride
you won’t see me before I begin to drive.
I’m choosing for you not to see me.
Sloth
I’ve been driving for one hundred miles and you still haven’t called.
I won’t call.
Greed
I’m not coming back and I’m filling my new life with pictures that only I can see.
Dozens of pictures for my eyes only.
Wrath
you didn’t want me to do your dishes anymore, so I smashed them all instead.
Shattered pieces of your favorite china are more fitting than cleanliness.
Envy
tell someone else to turn around, because I won’t.
I’m sure you can find someone else to tell.
Lust
a new and improved you, all mine, whenever I please.
It’s my turn to have my way.
Gluttony
I choose what enters my body and in what quantities.
I’m okay to drive.

All seven sins are consequences of loss.

The day I made a WordPress account

It was somewhere between late at night and early in the morning. The futon I was laying in was broken, but so was the bed in my apartment. Since the year was new, I was finding inspiration within myself to download tons of apps that were “essentials” for writers, but that’s about as far as the inspiration went.

I AM going to post on here at least five days per week. Hopefully the majority of those posts will be new creative material, but as long as it’s something I’m in the green.

Maybe this will help me be productive.
